Feudal System- the basis of medieval class system, it defined who were the haves, and who were the have-nots.
Medieval castles were specially built to protect the people that it housed, but not just anyone during the Middle Ages could live inside of a castle. Only the top three people in the Feudal System. An easy way to explain the feudal system would be to say the most important people to the least important people, yes it is truly sad that that's the way people of the Middle Ages had to live, but that's the way it was. Kings and lords along with their family and staff were the only people of the Middle Ages who were aloud to live in a castles. Castles were tall and strongly built to protect the people inside, such as the king, from unexpected attacks from nearby neighbors. Most castles were built on top of a hill to make it hard for the attackers to win their battles, the castles being built on top of the hill made the attackers have to climb up the hills to attack. By the time the attackers got to the castle, the king and his brave knights would be ready to attack.
Castles were built with a large door in the center of the front of a castle called the drawbridge. This door was made so people couldn't just walk in whenever they decided to. Castles also had a merlon and embrasure at the top so knights can have a view of people that might be coming to attack or visit the king in the distance. The knights and the staff of the king were all over the place working. the knights stood inside and outside guarding the castle from nearby invaders. the staff was inside fulfilling the kings orders when asked to do something. There was the atilliator who made weapons for the king's knights, the cook who would make and bake food in the castle's fireplace, the watchman who made sure security was tight for the castle, the castilian who kept watch of the castle and made sure everything went as the king planned, the knight who made sure the king and his castle were heavily guarded, the squire who made sure the knights weapons and horse were taken care of and cleaned the knights armor, the messengers who made sure that things such as letters and recipets were delivered, the chaplain who delivered spiritual messages to the laborers of the castles, they also performed spiritual ceremonies for the king or lord of the castle, the butler who would get what the king or lord asked for, and the serfs and pesants who would do the cleaning and washing of clothes for those who lived in the castle.
